Apparently, Dice games are considered to be the simplest and most enjoyable games amongst children as well as adults for its simplicity and just sheer luck. There are various kinds of dice games like pig, button men and backgammon.
Before playing these games, one must understand the rules of throwing a dice. Suppose there are about two players, each player will be given a chance to roll the dice and whoever gets the higher number will be allowed to start the game.
Backgammon is one of the common dice games played on a board consisting of two players with each player been allotted a different color like red and white along with fifteen checkers each. The board has 24 triangles of alternate colors which are placed on four quadrants with six triangles in each quadrant. These triangles are also referred to as points. Now one may ask the basic arrangement in which this game of dice can be played. The fifteen checkers are been spread over the board in a specific way like for example 2 checkers are placed on the 24 points, 5 checkers are placed on the 13 points, 3 checkers on the 8 points and finally the remaining 5 on the 6 points. The red players 24 point is the same as the white players 1 point. Each player will have a home board and an outer board and there is a bar which actually separates the two boards.
Having understood the basic way in which the checkers are placed, now comes the time to roll the dice and start this interesting game of dices. Each player will roll one dice first and the one bearing the higher number will start moving the checkers. Next time they will play this dice game with 2 dices and a dice cup can also be used in order to shake the dices. The dice cube will have the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 on the face of the dice.
The main object of this dice game is to try to get all the checkers from the outer board towards the home board and one should be very careful while playing this game of dice is to always place the checkers in an open point. This game becomes more interesting when the player lands to a point which is already occupied and this is called a blot. When such a situation arises, that particular checker will be sent to the bar and will be allowed to move only in the opponent’s board.
In order to win this dice game, the player must try to remove all his 15 checkers from the board. This is possible by bearing off his checkers, which simply means rolling his dice to a number equivalent to the particular point on which his checker is placed. Tentatively the player who bears off all his checkers comes out as the winner in this game of dices.
