Solitaire is one of the most famous card games all over the world. It is played by millions of people, and is extremely easy to learn which is why it is a favourite among beginners. Solitaire is also known as Patience, and is typically a single player card game. The idea or the aim is to arrange the cards in a specific manner, within/without a time limit. When the time limit comes into play, two players can play this solo game in a competitive (race type) manner, and the faster one to finish wins the game. One can also look at having a co-operative game play.
The five main different kinds of solitaire games are as follows:
1. Klondike Solitaire – This is one of most classic form of solitaire games, included in almost all major computer operating systems too. It is not an easy game to win and sometimes, you will find yourself playing 7-8 games before you actually win one. There is a good amount of guesswork involved in these games, and the rules are simple and easy.
2. Pyramid Solitaire – This one has an opening tableau in the shape of a pyramid. The idea is to eliminate all the cards one by one from the talon to the tableau. The cards are removed from the pyramid in pairs, when the total of the two cards is 13, except for the King card, which has a value of 13 alone. Only those cards which are completely visible can be removed, and not the ones that are partially visible. Most of the game depends on luck, but there are some basic strategies which help to increase the winning chances.
3. FreeCell Solitaire – This one is considered to be one of the easiest forms of solitaire as it can be solved quite quickly. The FreeCell version of Solitaire is also found in almost all computer operating systems, and it was invented by Paul Alfille. As your experience and skill in the game improves with practice, your winning chances increase.
4. Golf Solitaire – Also known as Forty Thieves, this one is a rather challenging kind of Solitaire. The Kings and the Aces in this game have special roles, and you need a lot of good luck and prediction skills in order to win this variant of Solitaire.
5. Spider Solitaire – Most of the Microsoft operating systems have this version of Solitaire pre-installed. This game often referred to as the “King of all Solitaires” needs a little bit of learning time. While the game may look complex and complicated at first, it is quite simple and easy to learn. It is considered to be one of the most enjoyable variants of Solitaire.
Whatever is the kind or type of Solitaire, this card game has always been a favourite among people. Since most of its versions are very easy to learn, beginners enjoy it the most. It serves as a great time-pass, and also helps in exercising your brain skills. So go ahead, and deal a pack of cards!
