Poker has always been one of the most favourite games of people all across the world. In casinos too, there are a large number of people who come specifically to play Poker, as they enjoy the game and the excitement that it brings along. Since the time Poker has originated as a game, there have been various versions of it and the rules too have been modified accordingly. But one of the most basic forms of Poker is the 5 Card Stud Poker, which happens to be the big daddy of all poker games. It is said to be the game where probably all poker rules were born and originated.
The following are some of the basic rules of 5 Card Stud Poker:
1. The first bet on the table, known as the “ante” is made by all poker players. It is non-refundable, and it makes up the pot on the basis of which the game is to be played.
2. Next comes the concept of the “bring in”, which is always done by the player who holds a door card with the lowest value. Usually, the “bring in” has a value which is half of the lower wager value.
3. If you are a player who is not playing for the “bring in”, then the first round of betting starts with the player who has the door card with the highest value.
4. There are 4 options available for all the players in every round of betting. One of the options is to of course make a bet. The second one is to raise the bet. A player can also check on how the other players are doing in the game. And the fourth option is to fold and leave the game. Usually players who do not have very string hands and are aware that they have very less chances of winning decide to leave the game. All those who are left after the round of betting then progress to the next round.
5. The values of each hand are computed on the basis of the values of the individual cards. Cards from 2-9 are the Low cards, whose individual values is the face value itself. Ace has the highest value of 6, while King, Queen and Jack are the High cards.
6. The last card which is dealt to a poker player is known as the “River card”. Once this card is dealt, the last round of betting begins and the players are supposed to give their final decisions at this time.
7. The pot is won by the player who holds the highest value at the end of the game. Of course, the pot increases because it is actually the sum of all the bets that have been made in all the betting rounds throughout the game.
Usually, most players do not survive towards the end of the game, and it is just 2 or 3 players who play the last round. It is very rare to find such tables where all players have managed to stick to the end of the game. At times, when the surviving players have the same type of hands, then the individual values of the cards are considered to move ahead.
