The Cahuilla Indians have for two millennium of casino history recognized that the natural hot springs located near the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs as a source of power and healing.
The first of three bathhouses was built in the late 1880s according to casino history, attracting visitors from everywhere to cure whatever ailment they had with the natural mineral waters. The next hundred years of the Spa Resort, the Agua Caliente Tribe run the assets, it grew from simple stream into a glossy Hollywood hangout.
According to Casino history, in the late 50s Agua Caliente Tribe’s wanted more control and flexibility in the use of their lands for revenue. In 1959, a persistent Tribal Council convinced Congress to permit the Tribe to grant long term leases, about a hundred years.
In Casino history, the Tribe’s first long term lease, the Spa Resort, opened on January 21, 1960. The Spa Resort was created by investor Samuel Banowit and several investors. The Spa Resort was built on 30,000 square-foot land using $2,000,000 to build thirty-six mineral tubs, twenty-three massage rooms and two outdoor pools. The bath originally cost $3.00 and a massage cost $5.00. The Spa Hotel according to casino history opened in 1963.
In Casino history, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians created an eleven-member development authority in 1993. It then obtained a loan from the Bureau of Indian affairs to purchase the hotel for $9,000,000. They then opened a make shift casino which was basically a tent with 200 slot machines and 12 tables. That was the start of Agua Caliente’s thriving casino business in casino history at the Spa Resort.
At present, the Tribe has two casino-resort properties: the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs and the Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa in Rancho Mirage. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians also owns and manages the Indian Canyons Golf Resort and the Tahquitz and Indian Canyons Hiking Trails in Palm Springs.
The Spa at the Spa Resort Casino still has a very deep connection to its history with a full-service salon and spa that is a sanctuary for the mind, body and soul. The Spa features a modern variation on what’s drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to this area throughout the past fifty years of casino history, a plunge in the natural hot spring waters.
The Spa Resort’s taking of the Waters provides a voyage for the senses in four therapeutic stages. The steam bath, the sauna and inhaling eucalyptus are all designed to clear a person of any toxins. The final stage, a private soak in the mineral springs, will send the guest drifting into tranquillity. Palm Springs based on casino history, was so dissimilar than what it has become in the 1990s that it is hard to imagine: a Cahuilla society of seventy people living in dwellings clustering close to the hot springs, which they were permitted to use on certain time of the day.
